The final GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup event of the season delivered top results for the pair of Garage 59 McLarens.
In the first of the two, one-hour races, Louis Prette and Miguel Ramos mastered the slippery conditions and took a brilliant Bronze Cup victory for the #188 McLaren. In the #159 car, Tom Gamble and Benji Goethe had a very strong run, taking eighth place overall, which was fifth in the Pro Cup class.
The Pro Cup pairing took this momentum into Race 2, securing third place on the grid for the start. It was Tom behind the wheel when the race got underway and took second place at the very first turn. He held this position until the pitstop, where one excruciating place was dropped, before Benji set off after the leaders, taking third place at the chequered flag.
Unfortunately for the #188 crew, their race ended prematurely after contact.
Speaking after the race, Tom said: “What an amazing day. It started with Qualifying, which went better than expected. Taking third put us right up at the sharp end of the grid.
“The start went really well and I was able to move up to second place. The car had amazing pace so my stint was great fun. We lost a position in the pits but even so this is a great result for the team. It means a lot to them as they have been working really hard all year and we’ve come close to the podium a couple of times but just missed out, so to finish the Sprint Cup season like this is really, really good. I’m over the moon for the team as they deserve that result. We’ve got one more endurance round to go so fingers crossed we can get on the podium there too.”
